Sweetbriar Nature Center Brings Wildlife to the Reboli Center

Families and Children Invited to Meet Adorable Animals and Owls in Person and in Whimsical Paintings by Former Stony Brook Artist Vicki Sawyer

In conjunction with The Reboli Center for Art and History’s current exhibition of “Wild and Wonderful,” featuring 25 new paintings by former Stony Brook artist, Vicki Sawyer, the Center has invited Sweetbriar Nature Center to bring some of its birds and other animals to visit on Saturday, September 26, from 2-3 pm. The rain date is Sunday, September 27, at the same time. Staff from Sweetbriar will give an overview of the nature center and talk about the animals that they brought with them. The animals will be outside on the grounds of the Center. The event is free and open to the public. To make a reservation, please call the Center at 631-751-7707 or email reboliprograms@gmail.com.

Sweetbriar Nature Center is a not-for-profit corporation based in Smithtown, NY. It provides educational programs for residents of all ages and offers native wildlife rehabilitation services. It encourages responsible decision-making, appreciation, and respect for the unique wildlife and ecosystems found on Long Island. Sweetbriar’s website is www.sweetbriarnc.org and it includes a section dedicated to what to do if you find an animal that needs help.

Having admired birds and animals for years, Vicki Sawyer was inspired to paint them. However, she adds a distinct touch by incorporating vegetables, twigs, and flowers to adorn her whimsical creatures with hats, necklaces, and other decorative accessories.

The exhibit includes works by the late artist Joseph Reboli for whom the Center is named. Also featured are several photographs by members of the local Four Harbors Audubon Society that highlights the beauty of Long Island and our wildlife.
