Third Friday Gallery Tour with Frances Campani

  • The Reboli Center for Art and History 64 Main Street Stony Brook, NY, 11790 (map)

Join Frances Campani, one of the talented artist’s behind the work in our current exhibition Figure and Form, for an enriching Third Friday Gallery Tour at The Reboli Center for Art and History. On this special evening, Campani will guide guests through the exhibition, offering a unique perspective on her own works as well as the broader themes of the show. Figure and Form showcases dynamic interpretations of the human figure and various forms, featuring works by renowned artists Joseph Reboli, Stefano Curti, Ahmad Nadeem Kasher, Roger Kramer, Steven Forster, Tyler Hughes, and Julia Jenkins. Each piece invites the viewer to engage with the evolving language of the figure, both in its aesthetic beauty and its deeper, symbolic meanings.

In addition to her art, Campani will offer exclusive insights into her role as the curator and historian of a special sub-exhibition in the Englebright Gallery. This sub-exhibition tells the incredible story of the Aluminaire House—a groundbreaking structure that forever changed the course of modern architecture. Designed by architects Lawrence Kocher and Albert Frey in 1931, the house was a revolutionary concept of prefabricated design. However, it faced demolition in the 1980s, and it was Campani, alongside collaborator Michael Schwarting, who fought tirelessly for its preservation. Their years of advocacy, which included dismantling and reconstructing the house with the help of architecture students, culminated in securing its permanent place at the Palm Springs Art Museum in 2020. During the tour, Campani will share her first-hand experiences from this incredible journey, shedding light on the historical importance of the Aluminaire House and its lasting impact on architectural history.

The evening will also provide ample opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the artwork on display and the history of the Reboli Center itself. Reboli Center staff will be on hand to share details about the building, which is itself an integral part of the local history. With the serene backdrop of Stony Brook Creek and the harbor, the gallery offers a tranquil setting to immerse yourself in both art and history. Light refreshments and finger foods will be served, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests to relax and connect.

As always, this event is free and open to the public, part of our monthly Third Friday series that invites visitors to explore art, culture, and history in a friendly and engaging setting. Don’t miss out on this special opportunity to experience art from multiple perspectives—both creative and historical—at The Reboli Center for Art and History. Doors will open at 6:00pm. Standing room only.
