August's Feature Artisan | Diana Dobreva

  • The Reboli Center for Art and History 64 Main Street Stony Brook, NY, 11790 (map)

The Reboli Center for Art and History is excited to feature artist Diana Dobreva as the Artisan of the Month for June 2025. A selection of her handcrafted, wet-felted soap creations will be showcased and available for purchase throughout the month of June in The Center’s Design Shop!

Dobreva’s journey into the world of textiles began in her hometown of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, a city steeped in history and culture. Surrounded by the vivid colors and rich traditions of her environment, she developed a love for capturing the beauty of her surroundings in fabric. Her adventurous spirit has taken her on incredible journeys, from soaring over the Balkan mountains in gliders and hot air balloons to sailing the Black Sea. It was during these experiences that she began to weave the vibrant patterns of her travels into the fabrics she created.

After earning a Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Dobreva moved to the United States, where she exhibited her work at galleries across the country. However, she later shifted her focus to support her family and pursued a successful career in cytogenetics. After some time away from textiles, Dobreva has now returned to her love of fabric and the creative process, exploring the art of wet felting. This technique allows her to create unique wool-wrapped soap, as well as hats, gloves, and scarves, all of which blend beauty and functionality.

Soap Selections:

Each wet-felted soap begins with a carefully chosen, high-quality base, selected for its natural ingredients, gentle lather, and rich sensory experience.
