February Artisan of the Month | Terri Prendergast

  • The Reboli Center for Art and History 64 Main Street Stony Brook, NY, 11790 (map)

The Reboli Center for Art & History is pleased to feature jewelry artist Terri Prendergast, founder of Dara Saol Jewelry, as our February Artisan of the Month. Trained as a surgeon but an artist at heart, Prendergast brings a rare combination of precision, patience, and deep creative intuition to her meticulously crafted work.

After a career defined by focus and fine detail, Prendergast rediscovered those same qualities in a new artistic form, jewelry design, marking what she calls her “second life.” Dara saol (dah-ra say-ohl), meaning second life in Irish Gaelic, reflects both her personal evolution and her connection to the language and heritage of her ancestors. Through this rebirth as an artist, Prendergast channels technical mastery into thoughtful, expressive adornment.

Equally captivated by the smallest grains of sand and the grandeur of towering mountains, Prendergast’s work is inspired by contrasts found throughout the natural world. The sky and sea, ever changing in mood and movement, play a particularly strong role in shaping her aesthetic. Prendergast works with tiny precious gemstones, large pieces of glass, and strikingly unconventional pearls, celebrating not only their intrinsic beauty but also their imperfections.

Each material guides the final form of the piece, revealing its own story through unique shapes, textures, and natural character. Prendergast’s designs are intentionally simple and refined, allowing the individuality of the gems, pearls, and glass to remain the focal point. This clean, uncomplicated aesthetic highlights her meticulous craftsmanship and results in jewelry that feels timeless, elegant, and effortlessly wearable.

We are proud to showcase Prendergast and her Dara Saol Jewelry Collection for our February Artisan of the Month feature. We invite visitors to experience her beautifully considered work, where material, meaning, and second chances come together, at the Reboli Center.
