Watercolor Study by Joseph Reboli

The Reboli Center for Art & History is pleased to present Works on Paper, a celebration of one of art's most enduring and versatile mediums. Opening on August 25, 2026, and on view through November 1, 2026, this exhibition brings together works by Joseph Reboli alongside a thoughtfully selected group of New York-based artists,   each demonstrating the remarkable expressive possibilities of paper in our Main Gallery.

Participating artists include: Frances Campani, Linda Giacalone, Elizabeth Gibbons, Tyler Hughes, Flo Kemp, Karen Kemp, Joseph Reboli, Doug Reina, Mary Jane van Zeijts, Patty Yantz, Sukie Zeeve.

Curated by Reboli Center staff, Works on Paper explores the diversity of contemporary and traditional approaches to drawing, watercolor, pastel, printmaking, mixed media, and other paper-based practices. Though united by a common medium, the exhibition showcases an impressive range of artistic voices, styles, and subject matter, from intimate landscapes and observational studies to bold abstractions and imaginative compositions, highlighting paper as both a foundation and a destination for artistic expression.

Visitors are invited to experience the exhibition free of charge during regular business hours in the Reboli Center's fully ADA-accessible galleries.

In the Englebright Gallery, guests can deepen their appreciation for the medium through an exploration of the fascinating history of paper, tracing its development, craftsmanship, and enduring importance in artistic practice across cultures and centuries.

The Hanson Gallery will present a special tribute to Sukie (Susanne Rebecca) Zeeve, whose artwork reflects the same curiosity, warmth, and creativity that defined her extraordinary life. A scientist, animal behaviorist, educator, artist, and humanitarian, Zeeve was the first female zookeeper at the Bronx Zoo and earned a Ph.D. in Comparative Biopsychology from Stony Brook University. She dedicated her life to the welfare of animals and people alike, serving on a FEMA veterinary emergency response team and assisting with search and rescue efforts alongside rescue dogs at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks. She later passed away from health complications related to that service.

A longtime resident of East Setauket, Zeeve was known for her boundless energy, compassion, intellect, and artistic spirit. Her paintings, sketches, and drawings reveal a joyful and inquisitive mind, offering an intimate glimpse into the imagination of someone who approached both science and art with wonder. This special presentation honors her enduring legacy and celebrates the creative voice she left behind.

Works on Paper invites visitors to discover the extraordinary possibilities that emerge from an ordinary material. Whether exploring Joseph Reboli's masterful works, discovering the talents of contemporary New York artists, learning about the rich history of paper, or experiencing the inspiring legacy of Sukie Zeeve, guests will encounter an exhibition that celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and the enduring power of art on paper.
