The Reboli Center for Art and History is proud to present Berman as our Feature Artisan of the Month for June 2026. Since childhood, Berman has been drawn to making things by hand. Taught by her mother and grandmother to embroider, knit, and crochet, she developed an early appreciation for texture and process that would shape her lifelong creative journey.
Over the years, Berman’s artistic explorations have included needlepoint, batik, garment making, fabric embellishment, collage, interior design, and photography. Though largely self-taught, she has always been guided by curiosity and a desire to discover the medium that resonated most deeply with her artistic voice.
Nearly twenty years ago, Berman found that connection in clay. From the start, she was captivated by its tactile nature and expressive potential. Working with clay became an ongoing practice of experimentation, growth, and discovery, allowing her to continually explore new possibilities in material and form.
In recent years, Berman’s work has been shaped by a deep connection to the natural world. During walks outdoors, she gathers leaves, flowers, and plant materials, later using them to create painted impressions on her ceramic vessels. Each piece becomes a quiet record of time and place — a reflection of both observation and memory. Her work continues to evolve as she explores the relationship between material, surface, and form.
In addition to ceramics, Berman is also an avid photographer and collage artist. Her work has been exhibited at venues including the Bayard Cutting Arboretum, Art League of Long Island, The Art Guild, Suffolk County Historical Society, BAFFA, Salmagundi Club, East End Arts, Half Hollow Hills Community Library, and the National Association of Women Artists. She is also a member of Women Sharing Art and the Long Island Craft Guild.
A retired Spanish teacher, Berman lives with her beloved cat, Henny, and continues to create work that reflects her lifelong appreciation for creativity, craftsmanship, and the beauty of the natural world.
