Ken Davies was an American Realist painter who Joseph Reboli first encountered while studying at Paier Art College, where Davies was his Professor and Dean. A graduate of the Yale School of Fine Arts, a published author, and a recipient of an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts, Davies has an impressive exhibition history including a number of exhibitions with Andrew Wyeth taking place between the 1950’s and 1980’s. Wyeth is widely recognized as one of the greatest realist painters of the 20th century. Although Joseph Reboli was impacted by a variety of artists, the influence of Davies and Wyeth is clearly evident, especially in Reboli’s earlier works from the 1960’s through the late 1970’s. There is a likeness between all three of their styles; subdued in color, highly textural, and with a strong sense of light and shadow.
In this exhibition, visitors will be able to observe examples of this influence by viewing Reboli and Davies’ originals alongside one another. Visitors can also enjoy original artworks by Justin Speers. Native to Southeatern Pennsylviania, Speers's artwork is naturally influenced by the same inspirational sources as the many artists of the [Wyeth’s] Brandywine Tradition. The feeling and history of the region is conveyed in his painting.
In our Englebright gallery, visitors will enjoy learning about Andrew Wyeth and the Wyeth family, while viewing reproductions from Andrew Wyeth, N.C. Wyeth, and Jamie Wyeth. The Englebright gallery will also feature an original Graphite Portrait of Andrew Wyeth by Dino Rinaldi.
