April's Feature Artisan of the Month | William Buchholz

William “Bill” Buchholz began his career in the arts as a gift wrap and product development designer, later advancing to Art Director roles at several design studios in Dallas, Texas. After establishing himself in the design world, Bill returned to New York to pursue a calling in education, an inspired decision that would shape the next three decades of his life.

He earned a B.F.A. and M.S., along with multiple professional diplomas and advanced teaching certifications, leading to a distinguished 30-year career as an Art and Media teacher in the Farmingdale Public School District. Throughout his teaching career, Bill developed innovative curricula in Advertising & Design, Computer Animation, and Media/TV Production, encouraging students to explore creative career paths in the arts.

One of the highlights of his career was his work with Farmingdale High School’s theatrical productions. As a set designer, Bill guided students in constructing and painting dynamic, transformative stage sets, while also overseeing the design of playbills, posters, tickets, and promotional materials, creating a fully immersive educational experience in the performing arts.

In 2023, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to arts education and his enduring impact on students, Five Towns College awarded Bill an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D.) at its 49th Annual Commencement Exercises.

Now in retirement, Bill remains deeply engaged in the arts community. He continues to volunteer, exhibit, and sell his oil paintings and stained glass work at The Reboli Center for Art & History in Stony Brook. He also shares his passion for painting as an instructor in the Smithtown Public School District Adult Education Program.

Bill has been a dedicated member of LIMAS for over 23 years, including seven years in retirement. As a Co-Founder and former Treasurer, he has played a vital role in supporting the organization’s mission. He remains a strong advocate for LIMAS at Five Towns College and takes great pride in its continued commitment to nurturing students and emerging artists.

Reflecting on his lifelong career, Bill often says, “I never worked a day in my life.” His passion, generosity, and commitment to the arts continue to inspire all who know him. We are proud to celebrate William “Bill” Buchholz as our Feature Artisan of the Month for April 2026!
