The Reboli Center for Art and History is delighted to announce Alan Winick and his innovative creations, Tidepieces, as the returning Feature Artisan of the Month for November, 2025. A curated selection of his kinetic tide clocks and sculptures will be showcased and available for purchase throughout the month in The Center’s Design Shop!
Alan’s connection to the sea began in childhood on the Brooklyn waterfront, where, inspired by “The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau,” he spent countless hours exploring, inventing, and experimenting at the end of the pier in Sheepshead Bay. By the age of fifteen, he had already built a one-man wooden submarine in his parents’ apartment, an early testament to his inventive spirit and lifelong fascination with the ocean. His work is a continuation of that passion, transforming the rhythms of the tides into mesmerizing art that reflects the natural world and the forces that shape it.
In 1999, Alan realized a childhood dream by building Explorer, a one-person submarine capable of descending 350 feet, and invented his first mechanically animated tide clock, now sold worldwide. His kinetic tide sculptures and tide clocks aim to create a tangible, almost visceral connection to the ocean, inviting viewers to experience the profound and cyclical forces that shape our planet. Alan’s work has been featured in Forbes, Coastal Living, and numerous television segments, and he is a member of the prestigious Explorer’s Club in New York City.
“Alan Winick’s work brings science, creativity, and nature together in a way that is both visually stunning and intellectually engaging,” said The Director of The Reboli Center. “We are thrilled to feature his designs in our Design Shop and Main Gallery this November, where visitors can observe and/or purchase these unique creations.”
Visitors are invited to experience Tidepieces in The Reboli Center Design Shop throughout November and December at The Reboli Center. Each piece, meticulously crafted, offers a unique blend of artistry and innovation. No reservations are required, and there is no admission fee during regular business hours (Tues-Sat 11am - 5pm, Sun 1pm - 5pm). We look forward to seeing you!
